“Overflowing Joy”
Generosity is the outpouring of God’s work in our lives. It is Christ living through us to bless others. Paul asks a question of the Corinthians, “What do you have that you did not receive?” (1 Corinthians 4:7) The answer was implied…” Nothing”.
James states,
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights…
James 1:17
Whether you are given much or little doesn’t matter. Remember the widow’s mite in Luke 21, she put in the offering two small copper coins. To the world, nothing, to God, she gave more than anyone else. She gave out of her poverty.
The churches in Macedonia begged to join in the work of God, even though they were a poor church. (2 Corinthians 8) They wanted the joy of serving Christ. Ephesians 4:7 says, “But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.” If you want to find the joy of the Lord, give according to the measure Christ has given you.
