Our History

Church Founded

A group of Bible-believing Christians met in the home of Reveau and Jane Stewart for the purpose of organizing a Bible Church in the community of Lewisville Texas. A name was chosen, “Lewisville Bible Church”. A constitution and articles of faith were adopted, and a board of elders elected. Brother Paul Mercer was called to pastor the congregation which consisted of 18 adults and 10 children under the age of 18. The first eleven months of services were held in the home of Reveau and Jane Stewart in Old Town, Lewisville.

After much prayer and deliberation, a plot of land was purchased on the corner of Purnell and Charles Street. At the same time a large dairy barn, built of grade A lumber and fairly new was donated to the church. The men of the church dismantled the barn and hauled the lumber to their new site.

The new congregation met on the grounds and dedicated the future church site to the Lord.

Breaking Ground - Construction Begins

ground was broken, site laid out, foundation poured, and construction began, all by the members of the church.

June 1955

With the corner stone set the building was quickly finished and ready to go. Services began being held in the new building on April 4, 1956. On May 13, 1956, Lewisville Bible Church held its dedication service for their newly constructed building. Reverend Carl A. Eaton, teacher in the Dallas Bible Institute, brought the dedicatory message, with Reverend Frederick Billings, also of the Dallas Bible Institute, offering the dedicatory prayer. A glorious day of dedication and praise.

The dreams and prayers of a small group of believers culminated in a beautiful building to use for God’s glory. It seems that no one ever told this small group of believers you cannot establish a church and build your own building. Their mindset was to trust completely in the Lord to supply all their needs. Through the hard work of the members, much donated labor, materials, and continuous prayer, they accomplished their dream in less than a year. That dream was to establish a church where denominational differences are put aside, and emphasis is placed on Christ and the Word of God.

Keeping the forward thinking going, the two lots adjoining the church property on the south were purchased in 1964. In May 1965 the church steeple was added.

With a growing church it became time to build on those lots the church had bought. The second educational extension was added as well as a much-needed foyer. They were finished and dedicated in 1975. Continuing that forward thinking, the remaining property on the south side of the church was purchased in 1982, making the church property span the entire block, from Purnell Street to High School Street.

1975

Lewisville Bible Church has always been mission minded. From the beginning they began to support missionaries. Rod and Tommy Lewis were one of the first missionaries supported by LBC. They spent 35 years in Brazil. Today there are some 32 Missionaries or Mission organization LBC supports financially and or in prayer. Even today LBC has a Mission’s Conference on the first weekend in March every year.

Reverend Paul Mercer, with his wife Maudie founded Lewisville Bible Church. Brother Mercer’s devotion to prayer and the ministry of the Word is evident through his prayer meetings and home Bible studies. Foundations of the church still in place today. Paul and Maudie Mercer served LBC for 28 years and many have come to faith in Christ through this ministry.

Following Brother Mercer’s ministry Ben Bailey came to serve as pastor with his wife Judy and their four children. Under Ben Bailey’s leadership the Board of Deacons was established. First Deacons Board: Eddie Mullens, Wayne Pennington, Theon Pike, Curt Sperle, Clif Waite, and Don Willis.
