WHAT DOES A HELPER DO?
Years ago, as a Contractor, I was intentional about hiring young men and teaching them various aspects of construction. I wanted them to learn a trade so that they could then provide for their families in the future. It was such a joy to see them learning new skills and becoming proficient at their jobs. The first priority was instruction; I would explain the how and the why of what we were doing; then I would model the lesson -having them watch what I did and how I did it. The next step was to have them perform the task with me as their helper. They would do the work but under my supervision. Sure, they would make mistakes, but I would not allow them to utterly fail at whatever the task might be. Why? I wanted their good. I wanted them to succeed. The irony is that as a professional Journeyman I chose to become the apprentice’s helper.
This is much like what Jesus has done for us. He has become our helper. In Psalm 118 we see this truth beautifully portrayed. (Please take time to read this Psalm. It will encourage you!) This truth is then repeated for us in a more concise form in Hebrews 13:5-6.
“He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ 6 So we may boldly say: ‘The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?’”
Let yourself pause, be astounded that the God of the Universe, the creator and sustainer of all things has chosen to make Himself our Helper! He has given us instruction on how we are to live our lives with an eternal and God honoring perspective; He has modeled this life for us as He walked on this earth; He has placed His Spirit within us to give us the ability and the power to “Walk in a manner Worthy of God”; He is now watching us to see how we do and help us at any time. One of the big keys is that He is allowing us to make mistakes, but He will not allow us to fail. His goal is indeed our success -Which is to His Glory!
Friends, this is why we have the amazing truth that we are invited, even encouraged to come boldly to the throne of Grace that we may receive mercy and grace to help us in our time of need! Jesus lives to make intercession for us! Jesus has given us everything we need for life and for godliness! TRULY WE CAN SAY “The Lord is my Helper I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?” I pray you will find great comfort and joy in the truth that Christ is your Helper.
