Ken’s Korner

Encouragement from your Pastor

A number of years ago, there was a popular game show called “Let’s make a deal.”  Whether you liked the show or not, it became very popular, and the name/idea became a familiar concept. I would like to walk us through Titus 2:11-3:2 with an easy to remember acronym. Let’s make a DEAL.

Paul starts off with the motivation for making this DEAL.

The grace of God has appeared bringing salvation to all men.

This Grace of God is none other than the person of Jesus Christ. Truly our Savior is God’s grace personified. In light of this Grace we should:

DENY ungodliness and evil desires. (2:12a) What God is saying is that in light of His grace revealed to us in the person and work of Jesus we should choose to lay aside all our fleshly and selfish desires which detract from us loving God wholeheartedly.

EMBRACE righteousness and godliness. (2:12b) In this second section, God is wisely instructing us to replace our fleshly desires with righteousness and godliness. We cannot afford to leave a vacuum in our lives, for something else will find a way to fill that space.  So, when we put off the fleshly desire, we must intentionally fill that void with righteousness.

ANTICIPATE the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2:13-14) One of the best incentives to living this type of lifestyle is remembering the imminent return of our Savior, knowing that none of us want to be found doing something, He would find distasteful when He calls us home or calls us at the rapture.

LEARN to be ready for every good deed, showing consideration for all men. (2:15-3:2) Finally, we see that our faith is to be lived out in our daily interactions with others. We cannot teach what we have not learned.

My dear brothers and sisters. I challenge you to read and meditate on this portion of scripture this month. And I challenge you to “make a DEAL” with the Lord.

IN THE LOVE OF JESUS
Pastor Ken Wakefield
