Encouragement from your pastor

Staying connected.

One of the greatest benefits of coming to faith in Jesus Christ, is the privilege of ongoing, daily fellowship with the living God! We have been given a genuine relationship with the God of the universe. (John 17:3) There is never a moment-day or night- when He is not available to spend time with us! God has given us everything we need for Life and for Godliness. (2 Peter 1:3) He has given us His Word to lead and to guide us, He has given us His Spirit to empower us. The problem then is not with what we have been given, but rather with the reality that we do not always stay connected with the ONE who is our spiritual power supply.

So how do we stay connected? One way is through our times of fellowship with Jesus in His Word. Do you start your times by asking God to meet with you and to lead and guide you into truth? Do you talk with Him as you are reading or meditating? A second way we stay connected to His divine power is through Prayer. Prayer, in a nutshell, is simply talking with God. Sharing our hurts, our joys, our fears our everything -with someone who cares deeply and is available 24/7 365.

At times, prayer involves sacrifice- getting up early or staying up late. Making the choice to turn to the Savior before we go to anyone else or anything else. Prayer is acknowledging that God is real, and He is right there with you no matter what you are going through. Learn to practice His presence. Sometimes it is helpful to write out your prayers as we see in the Psalms. Sometimes it is helpful to take the prayers recorded in Scripture and then apply them to ourselves or to our loved ones. Often it is helpful to pray in groups-with just 2 or 3 others or in larger groups. When someone asks for prayer, don’t just pray for them, pray with them! The comfort and encouragement from this is tangible.

I want to challenge us to make it our goal to enjoy God’s gift of eternal life, knowing and being known by God, connected to Him, right here, right now.

In the Love of Jesus
